JA Supporter of the Week: Tara Correira

For her dedication to bringing exciting learning opportunities like Junior Achievement programs to local students … we are excited to announce Tara Correira of Taunton High School as our JA Supporter of the Week!

Tara has invited Junior Achievement volunteers into her classroom to implement JA’s free financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship education programs such as JA Career Success, JA It’s My Business, and JA Reverse Job Shadow. JA Career Success equips students with the knowledge required to get and keep a job in high-growth industries, allowing students to explore the crucial workplace skills employers seek but often find lacking in young employees. JA It’s My Business provides students with an opportunity to experience the initial steps necessary to start a business, providing an authentic entrepreneurial experience building up to a product-pitch competition. JA Reverse Job Shadow creates a connection between school and the business world with professionals coming into the classroom to discuss their jobs and the importance of educational attainment in achieving their goals. Tara understands the value of getting students excited about learning these important life skills and helping them understand the connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied to the real world.

Every year since the JA Titan Business Challenge was created, Tara has coordinated and chaperoned several teams of students’ participation in the event. Titan is an annual business strategy competition in which over 200 high school students from across Southern Massachusetts come together at UMass Dartmouth to learn foundational business skills through an online interactive business simulator, hear from some of the region’s top leaders, and compete for important scholarship awards that can help make a higher education possible.

“Tara has been a great supporter of Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts as we work to increase the reach and deepen the impact of our programs in Taunton. She goes above and beyond to provide exciting, interactive learning opportunities for her students such as JA Classroom Programs and the JA Titan Business Challenge. The impact JA programs have on local students would not be possible without the support of their educators, and we are so very grateful for all Tara’s efforts to bring JA programs to her students!” – Jeffrey Pelletier, Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts President

With deep gratitude for her dedication to bringing JA programs to students in Taunton, we are proud to honor Tara Correira as our JA Supporter of the Week!
