JA Supporter of the Week: Jennifer Messier

For her dedication to preparing her students for success through educational opportunities like Junior Achievement … we are excited to announce Jennifer Messier, Assistant Principal of Alfred J. Gomes Elementary School in New Bedford, as our JA Supporter of the Week!

Jennifer is incredibly dedicated to preparing her students for future success in their academic careers and in life, working tirelessly on providing new opportunities to get them excited about learning. For the past five years, Jennifer has been working with Junior Achievement to bring our free K-5 financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship education programs to the students at Alfred J. Gomes Elementary School.

Thanks to her leadership, we have formed a comprehensive whole-school partnership so that students receive JA programming every year from kindergarten through fifth grade, serving more than 500 students annually. This allows them to build upon the basic knowledge and skills covered in lower grades and dive deeper into important topics discussed in higher grades, creating a foundation of skills that can help them achieve financial stability later in life.

Jennifer also worked with Junior Achievement to start a club for fourth and fifth grade students using the program JA More Than Money, which boosts students’ money-management skills through fun, hands-on activities.

“Jennifer Messier was one of the first educators to recognize the enormous benefit of implementing JA programs throughout the whole school. Through her leadership and guidance, JA and the Gomes School have formed a partnership that really benefits the students and provides opportunities for creative programming. Jen not only encouraged regular in-school programming, but also led the way in creating a JA club option for older students. She creates an atmosphere that is so warm and welcoming, all the volunteers want to come back year after year.  Thank you, Jen, for your strong support of your students and our programs.” – Elaine Meredith, JA Program Director

With deep gratitude for her support of Junior Achievement, and her leadership in growing and deepening our partnership with Alfred J. Gomes Elementary School, we are proud to honor Jennifer Messier as our JA Supporter of the Week!
