JA Partner of the Month: First Citizens' Federal Credit Union

For their outstanding volunteer engagement and generous charitable support for Junior Achievement’s programs, we are excited to announce First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union as our JA Partner of the Month!

First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union is a long-time supporter of Junior Achievement, and their support continues to grow. In the past two years 37 First Citizens’ employees have volunteered to teach JA’s free financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship education programs in 28 local classrooms, reaching over 500 students. First Citizens’ employees also support JA through fundraising events such as our JA Strikes for Success bowling event which helps keep all our programs free for local students and schools. And in addition, Leslie Poulin, Sr. Director of Marketing for First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union, helps lead Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts as a member of our Board of Directors.

For the past two years First Citizens’ employees have volunteered to serve as Business Mentors for the annual JA Titan Business Challenge. This is an annual event in which over 200 high school students from across Southern Massachusetts come together at UMass Dartmouth to learn foundational business skills through an interactive online business simulator, hear from some of the region’s top leaders, and compete for important scholarship awards that can help make a higher education possible.

First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union has also hosted JA Job Shadows, inviting local students into their headquarters with employees volunteering to share information about their jobs, the company, and the industry. Through this hands-on experience, students are able to observe a professional work environment, learn about the careers that are available, and speak with employees about their jobs. They also learn which skills are necessary in a particular industry and the importance of educational attainment in achieving their goals.

This year Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts has brought JA’s founding program – the JA Company Program – back to our local students, and First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union is serving as one of the first Student Company Sponsors. In addition to this generous charitable donation, First Citizens’ employees are volunteering their time every week to mentor a team of high school students from across Southern Massachusetts as they work together to solve a problem in their community by building and managing their own start-up business. The First Citizens’ team has created a company called Inspired Souls which creates and sells apparel that reflect and support social causes.

“We’re so very grateful for our partnership with First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union to help spread financial literacy education across the region and support local students. Their important charitable support has helped us grow the reach and deepen the impact of our existing programs, as well as provide new programs for students like the JA Company Program. FCFCU employees are always eager to volunteer their time, and Leslie Poulin has been such as tremendous asset to the organization as a JA Board Member, advocate, and volunteer.” – Jeffrey Pelletier, Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts President

For their dedication to spreading financial literacy education across the region and supporting local students through Junior Achievement programs, we are proud to honor First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union as our JA Partner of the Month!
